Ki coy on Arsenal link
Ki Sung-Yueng has distanced himself from speculation linking him with a move away from Celtic to Arsenal.
Reported by Goal, the 23-year-old was speaking after helping South Korea claim Bronze in the 2012 Olympics at the Millennium Stadium following a 2-0 win against rivals Japan. Ki said:
“I’m not sure. I haven’t heard anything about that. I just need some rest now and spend some time with my family, and then I will think about my future.”
Reports in the week were building up with suggestions that Arsenal were ready to offer £9 million for the player dubbed ‘the Korean Steven Gerrard’ whilst also attempting to fend off interest from Europa League winners Athletico Madrid.
For Celtic fans it will come as good news that Ki has not been in contact with another club so far, since arriving from Seoul in 2009 he has played 66 times in the SPL scoring 9 goals.
The Gunners have already strengthened their midfield this summer having signed Santi Cazorla from Malaga but it is thought that Arsene Wenger isn’t finished in this year’s transfer market and doesn’t want to find himself in a similar position to last season where he completed a couple of deals at the eleventh hour on deadline day.
