Hodgson admits to worry over Rodwell's Man City move
England manager Roy Hodgson has warned Jack Rodwell that his move to Manchester City could have an adverse effect on his international career, according to the Daily Mirror.
Rodwell left boyhood club Everton for the Premier League champions last weekend and Hodgson has predicted the 21-year-old will struggle for regular action at the Etihad Stadium. Claiming that in future he will be left with little option but to select players who rarely play for their clubs, Hodgson said: “Jack Rodwell has just gone to Manchester City. If you look at their midfield I don't know how many starts he's going to get there.”
Roberto Mancini, the Manchester City manager, can already call on a wealth of options in Rodwell’s preferred central midfield position. The Italian has Nigel de Jong, James Milner, Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure all vying for places, with the number of starting slots available dependant on the formation Mancini utilises. For much of last season the manager set his team out in a 4-2-3-1 system, but for the Community Shield victory over Chelsea on Sunday Mancini switched to 3-4-1-2.
