Man City in the running for former Everton winger Drenthe

Premier League champions Manchester City are one of the sides interested in the free transfer signing of former Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe, the Dutchman who spent last season on loan in England with Everton, ESPN has reported.

One of Drenthe’s agent has claimed City are joined in their interest by the likes of Italian sides Inter, Napoli and Genoa, as well as Turkish giants Galatasaray and at least one side in Russia. Antonio Salerno added that Drenthe is close to making a decision over his future.

Another of the player’s representatives, Serkan Kulup, added Dynamo Kiev and West Ham United had been in contact over winger. Kulup also revealed that Drenthe’s preference is to play for a big club, specifically naming Kiev, Galatasaray and City as the most likely options.

Drenthe joined Everton on transfer deadline day a year ago, signing a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid. But the 25-year-old’s time at Goodison Park was cut short after manager David Moyes grew tired of his attitude ahead of the FA Cup semi-final with Liverpool in April, leaving Drenthe out of the match day squad for the showpiece event.
