Chelsea consider pulling out of Cavani and Hulk transfers over money
Chelsea have warned they will not be held to ransom in their pursuit of Napoli forward Edinson Cavani and his Porto counterpart Hulk, the Daily Mail has reported.
Cavani is said to be seeking wages of £150,000 per week which, combined with a mooted £35m transfer fee, would make him one of the most expensive purchases in the club’s history. Chelsea are understood to have told the Uruguayan’s representatives that the move is off unless the player lowers his demands.
Similarly, Hulk’s protracted switch to Stamford Bridge is also hanging in the balance. The player is very keen on coming to the Premier League but the sticking point remains the transfer fee. While Porto are no longer demanding Chelsea meet the release clause stipulated in the contract - around £80m - the lowest price they are currently willing to accept is still a substantial £38m.
A similar situation has developed over the transfer of Wigan forward Victor Moses, with the selling club insisting that £7m of the £10m fee is paid up front. Chelsea would prefer a smaller initial payment with the rest of the fee coming in add-ons.
