Olivier Giroud has been given a huge boost by new Arsenal teammate Laurent Koscielny, who has claimed the striker is ready to replace Robin van Persie. Reported by the Daily Star, the French centre-back is confident that the outgoing Dutch forward will have his boots filled by the new 21-year-old after watching him in preseason.

He said: “I played with him at Tours and he was a great player then. Now he is even more confident and scores lots of goals. I know his qualities and he will give a lot for us. I know he has the physical quality to play in this league. For a striker it is about confidence and I am sure he working hard to start well with Arsenal.

The two Frenchman played together at Tours - a Ligue 2 side - where they both honed their craft before moving up in the French league system. Giroud arrives at the Emirates having scored 33 goals in 73 games over the past two seasons at Montpellier and Koscielny is ready to watch him replicate this form in the Premier League.

Luka Podolski also joins the new look Arsenal front line this season as the Gunners look to mount a serious title bid after finishing third last year. Van Persie is yet to move but speculation mounts everyday as to where he will play his football in the next campaign.
