Lukaku hits out at Chelsea after West Brom loan exit

Romelu Lukaku has wasted no time in hitting out at his parent club Chelsea after securing a loan deal to West Brom. Reported in the Daily Mail, the 19-year-old has criticised the way he was treated last season, feeling that his big money move to the Premier League was a waste of time.

He said: “I couldn’t see myself staying at Chelsea. I sacrificed a year of my career with them and didn’t want to put up with it any more. I decided in March I wanted to go out on loan, and told my agent to find me a club. I am relieved to have found a solution.

Despite efforts from new Blues’ boss Roberto Di Matteo to keep him at the club, the Belgian striker had made up his mind after watching from the sidelines last season. He added: “I got sick of watching the others from the bench. I just played 12 games and when I was playing well, they would take me off. I lost my hunger for the game over the past year. I won’t beat about the bush - my season at Chelsea went very badly.

Whilst his words may not be wise, this is not the first time he has expressed his distain for his first year at his current club. At the end of the year he will return to Stamford Bridge after a season under former Chelsea player and assistant coach Steve Clarke, and Lukaku forward is looking forward to his time at the Hawthorns.

He said: “It’s good for my development to leave London. I can bounce back at a mid-table club. Steve Clarke constantly phoned when I was on Chelsea’s US tour. I am very happy to join West Brom.

The move leaves the European Champions with just two strikers for the new season, Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge, one of whom the club have had a tendency to play out wide rather down the middle as he would prefer.

Torres got his season off the a strong start, scoring in Sunday’s Community Shield game at Villa Park which the Blues eventually lost 3-2 to Manchester City.
