Man Utd chasing Buttner signing
Manchester United are close to following up the signing of Robin van Persie with the capture of another Dutchman, Vitesse Arnhem left-back Alexander Buttner, the Daily Mail has reported.
Buttner, 23, is said to have flown to England over the weekend to undergo a medical with the Premier League side ahead of a £3.9m move. A five-year contract is expected to be agreed as Sir Alex Ferguson moves to secure cover for Patrice Evra on the left of his defence.
Southampton were believed to have been close to clinching a deal for Buttner earlier in the summer, only for the move to fall through and leave United with room to capitalise. His club went so far as to announce Buttner’s move to the Saints was official, only for transfer to fall apart.
Buttner, who can also play at right-back, was named in the Netherlands’ 36-man provisional squad for Euro 2012 but did not make the final cut.
