The long-standing interest from Manchester City in Daniele De Rossi could reach a climax this week, with the Premier League champions looking to add to further bolster their midfield. According to the Daily Mail, City are ready to ramp up their bid for the Italy international after a quiet summer which has seen them only sign Jack Rodwell.

Roberto Mancini is preparing to test Roma’s resolve with a £30m bid for the defensive midfielder as they attempt to sure up their midfield. However, Roma boss Zdenek Zeman is sure that the 29-year-old will stay at the Stadio Olimpico.

He said: “I am convinced that De Rossi stays with us. He is very important and the club has not asked me anything about him. I think he will remain. Has Mancini ever called me? Several times, even when I was at Pescara last year. The last time I heard from him was three weeks ago.

The Italian scored against England in Switzerland last week in what turned out to be a 2-1 defeat for his country. Since debuting in 2002 in Serie A, De Rossi has played 281 times for Roma and has scored 33 goals. His first international game came in 2004 and he has since earned himself 51 caps and netted nine times.
