Liverpool to sell Adam and Spearing to fund Fulham star Dempsey
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will sanction the sales of midfield pair Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing in an attempt to fund the signing of Fulham’s United States international Clint Dempsey, the Daily Mail has reported.
Rodgers has already spent around £25m this summer on Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen and Roma striker Fabio Borini and the Mail claims he must raise funds through sales before he can further add to his squad.
Fulham are said to want at least £7.5m for Dempsey, who has made no secret of his desire to move to Anfield. Adam was offered to Fulham as part of the deal for Dempsey, but it is thought the Scotland international does not want to move to London.
Adam is attracting interest from Liverpool’s near neighbours Everton, but David Moyes is happy to wait until late in the transfer window before moving for the player in an effort to sign him for as little as possible.
Spearing, a graduate of the Liverpool youth system, has been linked with a move to Championship side Bolton Wanderers.
