Hodgson fears logistical issues for Brazil 2014
England Manager Roy Hodgson today told the media of his fears that the 2014 World Cup in Brazil could turn into a logistical mess for both teams and fans alike.
Although Hodgson spoke prominently of ‘the added spice that Brazil brings to this tournament, a country dominated by football’, Hodgson’s words at a Vauxhall Road to Brazil 2014 press conference in London today highlighted the potential logistical dangers Brazil may face.
 ‘Brazil have a major logistical problem on their hands. It’s a vast country. I don’t think we realise quite how vast. It will be enormously difficult for the teams that qualify depending on where they are drawn.’
‘When people think Brazil, they think Rio. But all 24 teams can’t be in Rio. You’ve got to remember that it will be in the Brazilian winter and if you’re down in Porto Alegre, you’re going to need a fur coat because temperatures there could reach single figures.’
‘You then have the possibility of playing one match in Porto Alegre and then playing your next in Manaus were you won’t be sunbathing, it’ll be 45, 50 degree heat and near the jungle. The differences in conditions are really quite enormous.’
Hodgson and England were much praised for their logistical organisation during the recent European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, where the England team based themselves in Krakow city centre and engaged themselves with the local peoples and their culture.
However, Hodgson had stark words of warning for the World Cup organising committee, stressing that more had to be done in order for the tournament to prove a logistical succes.
‘Brazil have a major problem at the moment. Local organising commitees haven’t yet come to decisions on which training ground is paired to which hotel. Nobody wants to choose a hotel but not be happy with the training ground and vice versa’.
England begin their qualfication campaign away to Moldova on September before facing a rematch with Euro 2012 hosts Ukraine at Wembley three days later.
