Arsenal to make late move for Newcastle midfielder Cabaye

Monday 27 August 2012

The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will attempt to sign Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye before the transfer window closes on Friday. A fee of £15m has been mooted.

Wenger has previously ruled out a move for Cabaye’s teammate Cheick Tiote but the Mail believe the boss will bid for France international Cabaye. However, the newspaper adds that the £15m offer will not be enough as Newcastle would have little time to replace a player of vast importance to Alan Pardew’s side.

Having seen Alex Song move to Barcelona Wenger acknowledged he could be in the market for a defensive midfielder, but only if a player of the required quality was available. Wenger remarked that Tiote was a good player but insisted he was not heading to the Emirates Stadium.

Cabaye is the more technical of the Magpies’ midfield duo, having moved to Newcastle from Lille in 2011.
