Chelsea consider bigger offer for Schurrle

Wednesday 29 August 2012

Chelsea could make another attempt to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle before the transfer window comes to a close, the Guardian has reported. The Premier League club saw an offer for the Germany international rejected earlier in the summer and his club insist he is not for sale, but that has not persuaded Chelsea to end their interest in the player.

The Guardian adds that if Chelsea were successful in their pursuit of Schurrle the likely fee would take their summer spending beyond the £100m mark. Yet despite the extravagant outlay Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is said to be concerned at the lack of options in his squad at centre-forward, with only Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge at his disposal.

Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falco and Hulk have all been the subject of offers from Chelsea but their respective clubs have not consented to a sale, taking a stance similar to Leverkusen’s, but Chelsea are still preparing another bid for Schurrle. They first offered £16m for the 21-year-old, who fits the brief of signing young players. Schurrle can also operate on the wing but can move more centrally if needed.
