Man Utd get injury boost as Evans and Fletcher continue comeback

Thursday 30 August 2012

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could soon have two more options in his squad after both Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher came through 90 minutes of an Under-21 Premier League match without a hitch, the Daily Mail has reported. New signing Alexander Buttner also featured in the win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Northern Ireland international Evans missed most of the summer’s pre-season training and the start of the league campaign after undergoing ankle surgery, but returned to the United match day squad last weekend as a substitute in the victory over Fulham and hopes to be included on Sunday when Southampton are the opposition.

Fletcher, meanwhile, was playing only his third game since last November, when he was diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory bowel condition. The Scotland captain had previously made a surprise appearance in a pre-season friendly against Aberdeen.

United won the match 2-1 with Italian striker Federico Macheda scoring both goals. The second came from a penalty, while Ryan Mason pulled one back for Spurs, also from 12 yards.
