Villas-Boas accuses Hamburg of disrespecting Tottenham over van der Vaart deal

Friday 31 August 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has poured cold water on the proposed transfer of Rafael van der Vaart to former club Hamburg after insisting the latest offer from the Bundesliga side was disrespectful, the Independent has reported.

A return to Germany has long been mooted for van der Vaart, who played for three years at Hamburg before moving to Real Madrid. It was from the Spanish side that van der Vaart joined Spurs but the Netherlands international is facing competition for his place in the side from new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson. With that in mind, as well as the historical and personal ties to Hamburg, the future of van der Vaart has been the subject of intense speculation.

Hamburg have made an offer for the playmaker but the Independent claim it is closer to £8m than Spurs’ desired £14m, with Villas-Boas dismissing the amount on offer as disrespectful to the club and also the player. He said: “We have had interest from Hamburg, but an offer of that dimension is not something the player deserves. Tottenham should be respected as a club. (The transfer) doesn't seem to be happening.
