Rodgers admits Liverpool need new faces on deadline day
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted the club will have to be active on transfer deadline day after acknowledging that he is looking for new players before the window closes, the Daily Mail has reported.
Rodgers was speaking after seeing Liverpool draw 1-1 with Scottish Premier League side Hearts in a Europa League play-off. The Reds won the tie 2-1 on aggregate but while Liverpool were in action against the Jambos, striker Andy Carroll was in London completing a loan move to West Ham. It is the departure of Carroll that the Mail claims will spur Rodgers into action on the final day of the summer transfer session.
While the former Swansea City boss declined to specify exactly who he hoped to add to his squad by the 11pm deadline, Rodgers was willing to reveal that he felt the Liverpool roster needed re-enforcements. He said: “We need other players to come in and help the group. We hope over the next 24 hours that can happen.” Rodgers added he was awaiting an update from the club’s managing director, Ian Ayre, on exactly where they stood on a number of deals.
