Lyon claim Tottenham move for Lloris is close to collapse

Friday 31 August 2012

France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris appears set to stay at Lyon for the remainder of the season as the the Daily Mirror reports Tottenham Hotspur’s move to purchase him has stalled.

A deal for Lloris, capped 38 times for Les Bleus, had appeared to be in place but with the transfer window closing late on Friday, Lyon claim Spurs have changed the terms of the previously agreed deal.

A statement on the French club’s website read: “Olympique Lyonnais have not reached an agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of Hugo Lloris. The proposals forwarded this evening by Tottenham are very different from the principle which had been agreed on August 26 and which had allowed to open the discussions between the player and the London club.

Tottenham Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has been a busy man in the transfer window as he looks to completely reshape his squad and in Lloris sees a younger, top class alternative to Tottenham’s current crop of either the ageing Brad Friedel, Carlo Cudicini. Heurelho Gomes is another option open to the former Chelsea boss.

We are very comfortable with our goalkeepers, (but) we can take into account that there is a future we have to prepare for,” Villas Boas said. He added: “In that sense we have studied possibilities in that position as well and throughout the goalkeepers available, Hugo is one of the best. However, with hours to go until the window closes, it remains to be seen whether the deal can be rectified.

Tottenham will attempt to get their first win of the campaign at home to Norwich City tomorrow afternoon.
