Man City make surprise Wright signing

By Andrew Tuft

Friday 31 August 2012

Former Arsenal, Everton and England goalkeeper Richard Wright has joined Premier League champions Manchester City in a surprise move just weeks after leaving Preston North End because he was homesick and missing his family in his native Suffolk, the Daily Mail has reported.

Wright was released by Preston a matter of weeks into his contract with the League 1 club after Wright indicated he did not want to be away from his family for so long. The Mail adds however that City will help Wright’s family move to Manchester for the duration of his one-year contract with the club. Manchester is only 30 miles away from Preston.

A veteran of more than 300 games for Ipswich Town across three spells, Wright also featured for Premier League sides Arsenal, Everton and West Ham, as well as winning two England caps between 2000 and 2001 and travelling to Euro 2000 as third-choice behind David Seaman and Nigel Martyn.
