Liverpool striker Carroll finally seals move to West Ham

Friday 31 August 2012

Andy Carroll finally completed his long awaited move away from Liverpool, making the switch to London and to Sam Allardyce’s West Ham on a season-long loan deal.

The Daily Telegraph reports that having wanted to stay at Anfield and fight for his place despite the indifference new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appeared to have for Carroll’s style of play, with the transfer window soon closing and the reality that staying on Merseyside would bring little playing time, Carroll accepted the move to Upton Park. The Hammers had earlier deemed the transfer of Carroll, who cost £35m in January 2011, impossible. However, after Liverpool dropped their demands of a guaranteed permanent deal at the end of the loan deal, the move for Carroll was resurrected. Carroll said: “I want to be playing games and obviously hoping to score some goals. I know the manager well and some of the lads, so it is nice for to come to a place where I know people. I’m hoping to add a lot of goals and create a few chances.” Carroll, who scored only 11 goals in his spell at Anfield, was given his debut at Newcastle by Allardyce and has close ties with the Hammers captain, Kevin Nolan, who skippered him on Tyneside. Allardyce was clearly delighted to get his man at last, saying: “Hopefully he can score goals for us and we will be in a very good position at the end of the year in the Barclays Premier League.
