Man Utd insist Rooney is not for sale
Manchester United have moved to put an end to rumours linking Wayne Rooney with a move away from the club, insisting that the England striker is not for sale at any price, ESPN has reported.
Rooney himself had previously announced on Twitter that there was no truth in media reports linking him with an exit from Old Trafford following the signing of Robin van Persie. Now the club’s chief executive, David Gill, has gone on record to dismiss the notion that the former Everton forward’s days are numbered at the club.
Gill said: “Wayne is definitely not for sale and I can categorically say there has been no discussion within the club or with his agent.” He added that Rooney is under a long-term contract and that while he may have been left out of the starting line-up by Sir Alex Ferguson last weekend, he remains an integral part of the squad at the club.
Rooney was introduced as a second-half substitute in the win over Fulham but did not complete the game, having to be stretchered off with a cut to his thigh that is set to rule him out of action for an unknown amount of time.
