West Brom vs Everton - Match preview and team news
With both sides making impressive starts to the season, West Brom and Everton meet at the Hawthorns looking to keep their perfect records alive. Steve Clarke’s first managerial job has started well with the Baggies and the experienced David Moyes continues to produce miracles in charge at Goodison Park.
Both sides picked up victories in the Capital One Cup in midweek, but it was Everton who were the most impressive, cruising past Leyton Orient with a 5-0 hammering. New signing Kevin Mirallas scored twice and there will be hope that he can potentially partner Nikica Jelavic in a devastating attack for the Toffees. The Blues have two wins out of two with their victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa, which has been an uncharacteristically good start to the season for Everton.
The nucleus of the Everton side is extremely impressive with a great blend of youth and experience working potently for Moyes. Jelavic is expected to come back into the side against West Brom, as well as Marouane Fellaini, who has been in scintillating form so far this season. Everton already have an away win in the Midlands under their belt this season and are keen for a second this Saturday.
West Brom will be no easy fixture and the Hawthorns is a tricky ground to go to, as Everton’s rivals Liverpool have figured out on the opening day of this season. Clarke’s side also picked up a great point away at Tottenham and have come through a difficult start to their campaign so far. The Baggies will be relying on the goals of Peter Odemwingie this season and the Nigerian international is expected to be back fit after picking up a knock against Spurs.
The Baggies won 4-2 in extra time at Huish Park against Yeovil on Tuesday in the Capital One Cup, but that side was a second string outfit and they will be fresh enough to take on Everton. There are no real injury concerns for the Baggies and Everton will be wary of the threat posed by Clarke’s men.
Everton have a good recent record against West Brom with a home win last season following a last-gasp 1-0 win from Victor Anichebe’s goal at the Hawthorns. The Toffees will be looking for the same this season and should have enough attacking firepower and confidence to see off a resolute West Brom side who shall cause problems for David Moyes.
