Ramirez completes Southampton move

Friday 31 August 2012

Premier League new boys Southampton have completed the signing of Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez, the BBC has reported.

Southampton’s official website added that the deal to sign Ramirez was completed more than a week ago bar a few small details, while the club also had to wait for a work permit to be granted to the Uruguayan international. Southampton also claim they fought off competition from around Europe for the player’s signature.

The 21-year-old moves to the St Mary’s Stadium for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract. Ramirez had been with the Serie A side for two years, making nearly 60 appearances for the club following a move from Penarol.

Southampton were promoted from the Championship last season as runners-up behind Reading but have made a slow start to life in the top flight, losing 3-2 to champions Manchester City in their opening match and then suffering a 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic in their inaugural home game.
