Tottenham sign Liverpool target Dempsey

Tottenham Hotspur have swooped to sign Fulham forward Clint Dempsey late in the transfer window after the United States international’s move to Liverpool broke down when the clubs were unable to agree a fee. The Guardian reports that Tottenham and Fulham have come to an arrangement over the deal, with Dempsey reportedly at the Spurs training ground to finalise the move.

Liverpool had made a formal offer for Dempsey but it was rejected by Fulham, who had previously accepted an offer for the player from Aston Villa earlier on Friday. But Dempsey’s move to Villa Park was a non-starter as the Midlands club believed Dempsey only wanted to join Liverpool.

The Guardian adds that Liverpool declined to increase their offer for Dempsey once Fulham rejected the initial bid, paving the way for Spurs to become front-runners to sign the versatile 29-year-old. A fee of £6m is said to have been agreed by the London clubs.

Sadly Spurs didn't swoop - they fell off the Moutinho deal (no fault of theirs, it's just if he's going to give up his dream of playing for RM or Barca, then it's going to be for the big money) and rather than land with dignity, Spurs panicked and grabbed at anything that was passing....to be precise.
