A Radamel Falcao hat-trick helped Europa League winners Atletico Madrid win the European Super Cup against Champions League holders Chelsea in Monaco on Friday evening, the Guardian has reported.

The Colombia striker bagged all three of his goals before half-time to give the Spanish side a commanding lead at the break. In the second-half, Miranda made it 4-0 before centre-back Gary Cahill grabbed a late consolation for the Premier League side. The Guardian adds that it was Falcao’s second hat-trick in a matter of days, having hit three goals in a 4-0 La Liga win over Athletic Bilbao earlier in the week.

Chelsea fell behind as early as the seventh minute when Falcao snatched his first goal, with his and Atleti’s second arriving inside 20 minutes and the third coming on the stroke of half-time. Miranda’s goal was a scrappy affair, the newspaper adds, while Cahill lashed his effort home in frustration at the comprehensive nature of Chelsea’s defeat.
