Wenger insists Arsenal can recover from poor start

Saturday 01 September 2012

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed his players to improve on their poor start to the Premier League season and surprise their critics, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Gunners have failed to score in each of their opening two matches of the campaign, recording 0-0 draws with Sunderland and Stoke City, after seeing captain and last season’s leading goal scorer Robin van Persie move to Manchester United. In the Dutchman’s place have arrived Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, but neither has as yet hit the target for their new club.

Wenger however pointed to the start the club made last season, when days before the transfer window closed Arsenal were beaten 8-2 by Man Utd at Old Trafford, and how the side recovered from that low point to break into the top three by the end of the season. Wenger also admitted that Arsenal’s lack of goals is a concern, but stressed that he was equally pleased that they have not yet conceded a goal either.
