Dempsey and Lloris sign in at Tottenham

Saturday 01 September 2012

Tottenham Hotspur rounded off the transfer window by signing United States international forward Clint Dempsey from Fulham and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon, Yahoo Sports has reported.

Dempsey had seemed destined for a move to Liverpool but when the Anfield club failed to agree a fee with Fulham, Tottenham stepped in with little more than an hour of the transfer window to spare. The transfer was confirmed by Spurs late on Friday night.

The move for Lloris was completed with a little more time remaining, as the Premier League side agreed to pay £10m up front for the goalkeeper, with a further £5m arriving in additional fees and clauses. Lloris has signed a four-year contract at White Hart Lane and had been at Lyon since 2008.

It was not all new signings at the Lane, however, as Rafael van der Vaart left the club to return to Hamburg, where he previously played between 2005 and 2008. Van der Vaart left the Bundesliga side for Real Madrid - from where he joined Tottenham in 2010 - but moves back to the club on a three-year deal.

Tottenham also allowed Danny Rose to join Sunderland on loan while Giovani dos Santos ended his stay in north London by moving to Real Mallorca.
