Monday 03 September 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has refused to guarantee Hugo Lloris first team football at White Hart Lane only days after signing the France international, the Guardian. has reported. Villas-Boas insisted that Lloris will have to earn his place in the team as long as Brad Friedel keeps performing to his current standard.

Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon on transfer deadline day but was not eligible to make his debut for his new club against Norwich City on Saturday. Friedel continued in goal and impressed with his display in the 1-1 draw with the Canaries, with the Guardian suggesting that Friedel’s performance was such that Lloris could be facing an extended spell in reserve.

Villas-Boas revealed after the match that the plan was to ease Lloris in slowly to life in the Premier League, stressing that he saw the France captain as a player as much for the future as for the immediate. Villas-Boas added: “When you transfer it's not written in the contract that you have to play. Brad is doing extremely well and deserves to be playing and he'll continue to do so.
