Torres targets record-breaking season with Chelsea

Tuesday 04 September 2012

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is aiming to break personal records this season, as the Daily Mirror reports the Spain international has revealed his aim is to net a personal best tally of goals.

Torres added that the departure of Didier Drogba from Stamford Bridge means he has a duty to step up to the plate and replace the Ivory Coast hit man. Torres said: “Didier is not here anymore so there is more responsibility for me and I’m ready for the challenge…Now I am looking for new personal targets, which is to get as many goals as possible and, hopefully, I will score more than I did in my best season at Liverpool.

The Mirror adds that Torres’ apparent confidence is in stark contrast to the lonely figure he often cut last season, particularly during a run of 20 games without a goal. Torres admitted as much to the official Chelsea magazine, when he acknowledged that his poor form and meagre goal return left him unsure as to which runs to make or passes to play.

If Torres is to better his most prolific season in English football then he will have to score more than twice the total he managed in the last campaign, 11, as his current best-ever mark is 22, scored for Liverpool in the 2009-10 season.
