Coming to a Cinema near you: De Niro as Pardew, Eastwood as Lambert and Clooney as Warnock?

In a survey of over 30 managers for Yahoo!’s The Dugout, Robert De Niro has been revealed as the favourite to play the managers’ lives. De Niro may have delivered award winning performances in “The Godfather” and “Raging Bull”, but would they be as tough a role as playing the likes of Alan Pardew, Kevin Keegan and Martin Jol? All of whom chose De Niro as their “Hollywood Hero”.

Clint Eastwood emerged as another managerial favourite. Could he be persuaded to come out of acting retirement to take up the role of the dour Avram Grant? Elsewhere, perhaps the kindest that can be said is that it is wishful thinking in the extreme from Neil Warnock, who selected George Clooney as his personal choice. Steve McClaren went for a classic choice in Robert Redford. We would need to sample Redford’s Dutch accent however before any definitive decisions can be made!

Selection of Hollywood Heroes

Robert De Niro: Alan Pardew, Glenn Roeder, Kevin Keegan, Martin Jol, Steve Coppell Clint Eastwood: Avram Grant, Roy Evans, Paul Lambert

George Clooney: David O’Leary, Neil Warnock, Owen Coyle

Brad Pitt: Glenn Hoddle, Mick McCarthy

Tom Cruise: Bryan Robson

Sean Connery: David Moyes

Harrison Ford: Gerard Houiller

James Bond: Roberto Mancini
