Man City striker Balotelli a doubt for Champions League tie with Real Madrid

Thursday 06 September 2012

Mario Balotelli could miss Manchester City’s Champions League match with Real Madrid after surgery on an eye problem has left the striker facing a wait to discover how long he will be out of action, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

The operation was needed to correct Balotelli’s repeated cases of conjunctivitis, brought on by a bad reaction to contact lenses. Balotelli had to wear contacts due to short-sightedness, the newspaper adds.

Balotelli is likely to miss City’s first Premier League game after the international break, against Stoke City on September 15, after he was told to rest for 10 days before the City medical staff judge whether or not he is ready to resume playing.

The Real Madrid fixture comes three days after the meeting with Stoke, with Balotelli a doubt for that one too. The former Inter forward has already missed a large portion of City’s early Premier League games and had to drop out of Italy’s friendly with England as well, all because of his eye problem.
