Arshavin to stay at Arsenal after rejecting Dinamo move
Andrei Arshavin is to remain at Arsenal and fight for a place in Arsene Wenger’s side after turning down the chance to return to Russia with Dinamo Moscow, ESPN has reported. The website adds that the Gunners were willing to send Arshavin out on loan to the capital club, but Arshavin rejected the deal from his side.
Arshavin spent the latter half of last season on loan in Russia with Zenit St. Petersburg after falling out of favour with Wenger. But that move was not made permanent and Arshavin has returned to North London, making a substitute appearance in Arsenal’s first game of the season against Sunderland.
The Russian transfer window closed on Thursday evening with Arshavin still an Arsenal player despite rumours throughout the summer that the national team captain would make another return to his homeland. CSKA Moscow were said to be interested in the 31-year-old, as were former club Zenit.
