QPR Focus - Hughes looking to loan players out of Loftus Road
After a busy transfer window QPR manager Mark Hughes will look to use the emergency loan window to offload players and cut the wage bill that has been ever increasing in recent months.
It has been well documented that Hughes has been allowed to spend owner Tony Fernandes’ millions to sign the players that will give them a stronger chance of a top half finish in the Barclays Premier League this season.
It is no surprise that DJ Campbell, Luke Young, Rob Hulse and Radek Cerny were all left out of Hughes' 25 man Premier League squad. All four players have been refused squad numbers so far this season and are certain to be sent out on loan in order to slash the wage budget at Loftus Road.
Since the Fernandes takeover in August 2011 there has been no fewer than six players released on a free transfer, most of which were players that the club had paid an original transfer fee for themselves. It is vital that the club loans out these players with a view to a permanent transfer, so they can recoup some of the money that has been spent on top players such as Park Ji Sung, Stephane Mbia, Esteban Granero and Junior Hoilett.
Mark Hughes and QPR have certainly shown players the horrible side of football this summer, with the transition of players coming and going at Loftus Road higher than any other team in the Premier League.
With QPR narrowly escaping relegation last season, Hughes knew he needed to bring in new talent to compete further up the league table. That left him with many players in the squad that were not needed. The likes of Joey Barton, Paddy Kenny, Jay Bothroyd, DJ Campbell and Luke Young were all signings made by former manager Neil Warnock only last year. All of these players had to relocate their families under the promise of playing regular Premier League football, only to be told a year later they had to move on and find a new home.
Campbell, who has represented 10 clubs in his career, is a natural goalscorer who has proved he can do it at the highest level from his time at Blackpool. Many fans will believe it’s a harsh move to omit the former non-league player from the 25 man Premier League Squad as he will add to the firepower that currently stands with only Djibril Cisse, Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson.
Bothroyd, another striker, has had his ups and downs in his career. A turbulent start at Arsenal led to spells at Coventry, Italian side Perugia, Blackburn and a few others before finally settling down at Cardiff. His form in 2010-2011 is probably the highlight of his career, scoring 15 goals in 16 games for the Bluebirds. Again, showing QPR are forcing another top goalscorer out of the door.
