Wenger open to Bendtner Arsenal return

Saturday 08 September 2012

Arsene Wenger has revealed he still sees a future for Nicklas Bendtner at Arsenal despite allowing the Denmark striker to leave on loan for the second season in a row, the Guardian has reported.

Bendtner spent last year on loan with the Gunners’ Premier League rivals Sunderland and returned to his parent club at the end of the 2011-12 campaign, only for Wenger to sanction a late loan move to Serie A champions Juventus on transfer deadline day. The player, meanwhile, was keen to leave Arsenal on a permanent basis.

Wenger however remains convinced Bendtner can succeed at the highest level, pointing to the fact that as prestigious a club as Juventus wanted to take him on loan, with Wenger adding that at the age of only 24, Bendtner has time to prove how good he can be.

The manager added that he only allowed Bendtner to leave on loan because he retains faith in the player’s abilities, insisting that Bendtner will return to the Emirates Stadium after his time in Italy and challenge for a first team place.
