Pardew will look to strengthen Newcastle defence

The transfer window may have only just shut but according to The Journal, Newcastle United are already planning their foray into the January transfer market with manager Alan Pardew reportedly looking to shore up his defence.

After a relatively quiet transfer window for the Toon Army, who consolidated by keeping the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Cheikh Tiote and Pappis Cisse at the club rather than pursuing purchases, it is believed that January will see Pardew move into the market once again. Early season injuries to the likes of Ryan Taylor, Danny Simpson and captain Fabricio Coloccini have left Newcastle short of defensive cover while Steven Taylor is only just recovering from an Achilles injury that ruled him out of the majority of last season.

Pardew has form when delving into the January sales, having picked up Senegal forward Cisse from Freiburg in the last winter window. Newcastle are currently 10th in the Premier League table and next travel to Goodison Park for an away day at Everton.
