Lampard wary of Ukraine

Sunday 09 September 2012

England follow up their 5-0 victory over Moldova in their opening World Cup qualifier with a home tie against Ukraine, a fixture midfielder Frank Lampard is wary of, Tribal Football reports.

The Three Lions have only recently got past Ukraine in their Euro 2012 group and that 1-0 victory could have been worse had John Terry not cleared the ball off the line to give England all three points. Roy Hodgson’s side began their qualification for Brazil in style and Lampard was particularly impressive, netting twice to get England off to a great start in Chisinau. Now, England jet back to Wembley for Tuesday’s qualifier and the Chelsea midfielder is wary of the threats Oleg Blokhin’s side have to offer.

Lampard said: “Ukraine are a quality team, they showed that in glimpses during the European Championships. It was a pretty impressive performance and a tough match, even though we got the win. They are certainly coming to Wembley with intentions to make it difficult for us and show what they are about, so we have to be on top form”.

England captain Steven Gerrard has also hinted at the threats Ukraine pose, believing it will be a much tougher task than Moldova and England have to be on their game.
