Chelsea goalkeeper Cech to delay elbow surgery
Tuesday 11 September 2012
Petr Cech requires an operation on his elbow but the Chelsea goalkeeper hopes to delay the procedure until next summer, the Daily Mail has reported, with the Premier League club asking the Czech Republic not to select the experienced international for friendly games before then.
Michal Bilek, the Coach of the Czech Republic national team, is said to have agreed to the request, with a statement from the Czech Football Federation revealing that Cech is having trouble stretching his arm fully. The statement added however that while the problem does cause Cech pain it is not in need of immediate surgery, unless the pain were to reach such levels that Cech cannot continue as normal.
Cech played for and captained his country in the weekend’s 0-0 draw with Denmark in Copenhagen, but as per the arrangement between club and country will not feature in Tuesday’s friendly with Finland.
If Cech’s situation were to degenerate then Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo would be forced to turn to either Henrique Hilario or Ross Turnbull, Chelsea two other senior custodians, while Belgian international goalkeeper Thibault Courtois is on loan at La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
