Chelsea to use Lukaku as makeweight in offer for Everton's Fellaini
Tuesday 11 September 2012
Rumours of Belgium international Marouane Fellaini leaving Everton continue to gather pace as ClubCall reports that Chelsea are planning on offering Fellaini’s national team colleague Romelu Lukaku as a part of a swap deal to bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
Despite Fellaini having signed a new five-year contract mid-way through last season, reports emerged over the weekend of the player’s desire to leave the club at the end of this season or even in the January transfer window. A statement was released by the player denying the claims but following Fellaini’s impressive start to the season, the Premier League’s top clubs have now been put on alert.
Chelsea, who are short of midfield options after Michael Essien and Raul Meireles were allowed to leave the club, are thought to be keen on the 24-year-old and would be willing to offer Lukaku - who cost the Blues up to £18m from Anderlecht last summer but is currently on loan at West Brom for the season - as part of the deal. Both players are currently away with the Belgian national team, who are in the same World Cup qualification group as Wales and Scotland and play Croatia on Tuesday.
