Coleman angered by Wales World Cup rout

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Chris Coleman admitted after seeing his Wales side beaten 6-1 by Serbia in a World Cup qualification match that he was angered and embarrassed by the display, the BBC has reported.

The defeat leaves Wales bottom of Group A, without a point after two games and having conceded eight goals, with only one coming in reply. Coleman added that with the score at 2-1 to Serbia at half-time Wales were competitive, but a second-half collapse of unacceptable proportions followed once the home side had extended their lead.

Coleman said: “I'm embarrassed by the performance, I have to use that word. To say we are disappointed is an understatement and we have to do much better because the goals we conceded were criminal.

Gareth Bale scored Wales’ only goal after two early strikes from Serbia, with four more goals following for the home side after the interval. Coleman went on to say that as manager, he must accept responsibility for the defeat, which leaves Wales without a win in any of the former Fulham manager’s four games in charge. Under Coleman, Wales have conceded 12 goals and scored once.
