Man Utd to drop Evra in favour of Buttner

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Patrice Evra could be dropped to the substitutes bench for Manchester United’s next Premier League outing as Sir Alex Ferguson prepares to turn to new signing Alexander Buttner when Wigan Athletic visit Old Trafford on Saturday, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Evra has been United’s first-choice left-back for much of his six years at the club but following the summer arrival of Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem, the Frenchman’s place in the side is coming under increased pressure.

The Mirror adds that a shaky display from Evra in United’s last fixture, the 3-2 win over Southampton on the weekend before the international break, was enough to convince Ferguson that Buttner deserves an opportunity in the United first team.

Buttner, who will wear the No. 28 shirt for United, made just over 100 appearances for his former club and has one international cap with the Netherlands to his name. Evra, meanwhile, has played almost 300 games for United and has almost 50 appearances for France to his credit, captaining Les Bleus on a number of occasions.
