Chelsea midfielder Lampard calls for patience with England

By Andrew Tuft

Thursday 13 September 2012

Frank Lampard has asked supporters not to rush to judgement over England after their two performances over the recent round of World Cup qualification fixtures, the Guardian has reported. The Chelsea midfielder added that there were a number of positives to take from the home draw with Ukraine.

Lampard pointed to the presence of a number of young or internationally inexperienced players in the England team or squad as part of the reason the side’s showing against the Euro 2012 co-hosts was a little less than slick. Manager Roy Hodgson was without a dozen past squad members and so was forced to turn to lesser-spotted players to fill out the roster.

The younger players are likely to form a large part of future Hodgson squads as well, with Lampard insisting that they are going to need time to adapt to the differences between international football and club football, as well as bedding in with the established faces in the travelling party.

He said: “Sometimes it won't click at all. It's international football. Ukraine are no mugs. We have a mixture of young players and more experienced players, and we're trying to find the right blend. We can get excited about a win in Moldova but you have to understand that it's a process of getting where we want to be. Ukraine was another night in the process.
