Man Utd in for young Italian striker

Friday 14 September 2012

Italian second division outfit Sassuolo have claimed that Manchester United are tracking their 18-year-old striker Domenico Berardi. According to the Daily Mail, United are set to make a bid for the teenager, who has made his breakthrough in the early stages of Serie B this season with one goal and two assists, catching the eye of clubs such as Italian giants Juventus.

Indeed, Sassuolo’s general director Nereo Bonato says his club are aware of interest in their young starlet from Old Trafford and beyond. “The interest from Manchester United? The player is followed with great attention by many clubs, including the Red Devils and also Juventus.

But there are other Italian and foreign sides who have observed him in recent games. For the moment there has been no concrete contact, so we’re thinking about the present and how to develop Berardi in the best way.

Berardi, who has been capped at Italian youth level, would join compatriot Federico Macheda at Old Trafford were he to make the move to the Manchester club.

United continue their assault to regain the Premier League title from near neighbours and bitter rivals Manchester City when they take on Wigan at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, before welcoming Turkish champions Galatasaray to the Theatre of Dreams to begin their Champions League campaign four days later.
