Saturday 15 September 2012

Chelsea and Manchester City are said to be tracking Benfica’s young Portugal international Nelson Oliveira according to the the Daily Mail. Oliveira, 20, impressed Chelsea in their Champions League quarter-final clash with Benfica at Stamford Bridge last season but since then Manchester City, who have already purchased midfield Javi Garcia from the Portuguese giants, are said to have made their interest in the young striker clear.

Oliveira is currently on loan at Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna and his scored in his only appearance for the club to date, after making his breakthrough into the Benfica ranks last season with 21 appearances in all competitions and three goals. The young striker also has international pedigree, having featured for his country at Euro 2012 12 months after he was voted the second best player in the Under 20 World Cup having scored four goals in Portugal’s run to the final.

Both Chelsea and City return to Premier League action this weekend after the international break, away to QPR and Stoke respectively.
