Jol puts faith in Berbatov to fire for Fulham

Saturday 15 September 2012

Fulham manager Martin Jol has spoken of his delight to have secured Dimitar Berbatov to his ranks after the 31 year old's deadline day transfer from Manchester United.

Indeed, the Press Association reports that Jol is counting on the Bulgarian to help revitalise a start to the season that after beginning so promisingly for the Cottagers, has embarked on a downward spiral with two straight defeats added to the loss of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey in the last few days of the transfer window.

“It was a big transfer for this club,” Jol said on Berbatov. “He is probably the best player we have ever had here up front. Hopefully he can fulfil the expectation and the people will see that he has got good quality. It is mixed feelings (after the transfer window) because we lost a lot of players in midfield. But we have to get on with the job and then Berbatov came in, and hopefully we have changed that feeling of disappointment a little bit.”

Berbatov is one of several new recruits at Craven Cottage, with Iranian midfield Ashkan Dejagah also joining on transfer deadline day from Wolfsburg while earlier this week, Jol completed the signing of the vastly experienced Greek international Giorgos Karagounis on a free transfer.

Fulham have an opportunity to get back to winning ways against West Brom at the home comforts of Craven Cottage, where their last match saw them defeat Norwich 5-0 on the opening day.
