Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has offered a refund to fans who bought a club shirt bearing his name before the Togo man had changed his squad number.

According to the Metro, Adebayor, who was given the number 25 before the official Premier League squad list was submitted, only for him to change back to the number 10 he wore while he was on loan at White Hart Lane last season has told Spurs fans that he will refund replacement shirts that were bought before his change in number.

“The number 10 is a special number for me and so when it became available I asked if I could change,” said Adebayor. “The club were happy to accommodate me, but were conscious that a number of fans had already purchased their new shirt with the name and number printed on the back, and after the squad numbers had been officially submitted ahead of the start of the season.”

“I am very proud that Spurs fans want to have my name and number on their shirt and I didn’t want them to be inconvenienced by this change. Therefore, I’m very happy to cover the cost to enable those fans to exchange their shirts - for an Adebayor 10!”

28 year old Adebayor arrived on loan at Spurs last season from Manchester City and despite being a former Arsenal player, endeared himself to the White Hart Lane faithful by hitting 17 league goals in just 33 appearances as he led Spurs to a fourth place finish. His performances were enough to seal a permanent transfer to the club after a long drawn out transfer saga over the summer.

Adebayor could make his first start of the season as Tottenham look to get their first win under Andre Villas-Boas away at Reading this weekend.
