Fulham v West Brom - Match preview and team news

By Adam Mazrani

Saturday 15 September 2012

Fulham return to the home comforts of Craven Cottage as they look to try and revitalise a season that has dangerously skidded to a halt since their opening day 5-0 destruction of Norwich, with Martin Jol’s men suffering two defeats on the bounce as well as losing star players Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey before the closure of the transfer window.

However, star deadline day signing from Manchester United Dimitar Berbatov could make his debut for the Cottagers alongside fellow new boys Giorgos Karagounis and Ashkan Dejagah. Elsewhere, Bryan Ruiz is said to have a 50/50 of making his comeback from a hamstring injury but Kieran Richardson, another summer purchase by Jol has been ruled out.

Opponents West Brom have made an excellent start to the season under new manager Steve Clarke. The Baggies remain unbeaten after defeating Liverpool on the opening day of the season, taking a point from Tottenham before defeating form side Everton at the Hawthorns in their last outing. Indeed, Clarke’s men currently sit in a lofty third position and will travel to West London with confidence high.

Clarke has a multitude of options to choose from, particularly up front now that on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku recovered from the foot injury that ruled him out of the victory against Everton to play for Belgium in the week. Right back Steven Reid is doubtful having picked up a hamstring problem while Jerome Thomas is out for a further two to three weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
