Cabaye focused on Newcastle despite Man Utd link

Monday 17 September 2012

Yohan Cabaye has rejected speculation that he wants to leave Newcastle United, insisting on the eve of their Premier League match with Everton that he is happy in the North East, Daily Mail has reported. Cabaye had been linked with a move to Manchester United, amongst others.

The summer transfer window came and went without Cabaye leaving the Sports Direct Arena, despite constant talk that United were joined in their admiration of the France international by Arsenal and Barcelona. The rumour mill had Cabaye as one of a number of Newcastle players close to an exit, with Cheick Tiote, Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini also regular names in the gossip columns, the Mail adds.

Cabaye though denied there was ever a chance of him leaving the club this summer - and added that after playing France at Euro 2012 rather than resting during the off season, he believes he is slowly getting back towards his best. He said: “I’m very happy here. I’ve never thought any different, and I’m very happy to play for Newcastle. It’s been difficult for me so far this season. I don’t want to make excuses but I’m getting back to full fitness.

Signed by Newcastle from Lille a year ago, Cabaye made 38 appearances for the Magpies in his first season, helping Alan Pardew’s side to fifth in the Premier League in the process.
