Nelsen accuses Chelsea captain Terry of diving
QPR’s Ryan Nelsen has lambasted Chelsea captain John Terry’s attempt to win a penalty for his side in the two clubs’ 0-0 draw at Loftus Road on Saturday.
According to the the Daily Mirror, Nelsen feels that Terry went to ground far too easily for a man of his size.
“If you ask John, he just fell down. He fell. I was holding him, of course, but he just fell down,” Nelsen, 34, said. “He does it to everybody in their box. I said to him, ‘That was a bit embarrassing, John’, and he laughed when he ran off. He didn’t say anything - he was too embarrassed, I think!”
Nelsen added that this was not the first time the controversial Chelsea defender had been found tumbling in the penalty area.
“It happens all the time. You watch him fall - that’s life,” Nelsen went on. He added: “ Fortunately it didn’t work. The ref was smart enough to see it. He was nowhere near the ball, was never going to win it, so he just fell down. He was just trying to get a penalty and trying to get something for his team to win. I wouldn’t make anything out of it.”
New Zealand international Nelsen is one of a raft of summer signings at Loftus Road, brought in by manager Mark Hughes, who Nelsen has previously worked with at Blackburn Rovers
Nelsen impressed as The R’s took a valiant point against the European champions and current league leaders in a game shrouded by the controversy surrounding Terry and QPR defender Anton Ferdinand following the allegations of racism in the same fixture last season.
Despite their point, QPR remain without a win so far this season and after five games are in 18th position, separated from Liverpool above them on goal difference.
