Mourinho tips Man City for future Champions League success

Tuesday 18 September 2012

Jose Mourinho believes that someday soon Manchester City will win the Champions League, the Daily Mirror has reported. The former Chelsea Coach was speaking on the eve of the match between the Premier League champions and their La Liga counterparts, Mourinho’s Real Madrid.

Mourinho added that while he is sure City will in time triumph in the competition, it may not be under the management of Roberto Mancini. The Portuguese spoke of the work done by Mancini’s predecessor, Mark Hughes, and praised Mancini for his success thus far - and also noted the amount of money that has been spent at the Etihad Stadium to get to this point.

But Mourinho went on to suggest that it might be a different manager in charge when City do finally win the Champions League. He said: “I don't know if it will be this season or next season, whether with Roberto or somebody else. But, in the future, normally, in the direction the club is going, sooner or later they can win the big cup. I don't know if it will be him.

Mourinho speaks with some authority on the subject of winning the Champions League. He has two winners’ medals to his name, having taken Porto to victory in the tournament in 2004 and then repeating the feat with Inter in 2010.
