Lindegaard happy to share Man Utd position with De Gea

Tuesday 18 September 2012

Anders Lindegaard insists he has no problem sharing the No. 1 spot with Manchester United teammate David De Gea, as the goalkeeper accepts that Sir Alex Ferguson will chop and change as he sees fit, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Lindegaard kept goal against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, helping United to a 4-0 victory over Roberto Martinez’s side and in the process recording United’s first clean sheet of the season. Previously, United had lost 1-0 to Everton and beaten both Fulham and Southampton 3-2.

De Gea was dropped after the Fulham game when an error gave the Cottagers a way back into the match, with the Mirror claiming the Spaniard did not command his penalty area and was punished for it, both by conceding a goal and losing his place in the side.

Lindegaard however does not see the competition between De Gea and himself as a fight to be first choice or avoid being the club’s No. 2, but rather as two teammates working together. He said: “He has his strengths and I have mine and the gaffer is world class at picking the right teams and I trust in that and I accept his decision.

I'm happy to play. Look at this place, it's amazing to play in front of this crowd. It's so historic and I'm just happy to play whenever I can.
