Evra likely to return for Man Utd
Wednesday 19 September 2012
Manchester United could bring Patrice Evra back into the starting XI for the Champions League meeting with Galatasaray on Wednesday, the BBC has reported. Sir Alex Ferguson dropped the France international to the bench for the weekend’s Premier League win over Wigan Athletic, new signing Alexander Buttner stepping into the breach.
Buttner made a scoring debut, adding the third goal in the 4-0 triumph, but Evra was more rested than replaced, the BBC adds. The 31-year-old suffered a minor injury on international duty and the decision was made not to risk him against the Latics, giving Buttner his chance to impress.
The summer signing from Vitesse Arnhem made a telling contribution against Roberto Martinez’s side, not only getting on the score sheet himself but creating the team’s second goal by teeing up striker Javier Hernandez.
Evra is one of a number of injured players Ferguson can now call upon, with striker Robin van Persie also fit to start after coming off the bench against Wigan, while Shinji Kagawa has also trained this week after a back injury. Midfielder Darren Fletcher could also return after missing 10 months with an intestinal condition.
