Champions League win gives Arsenal confidence for Man City match, says Bould

Arsenal have a spring in their step after beating Montpellier in the Champions League, Steve Bould has said, adding that they will carry it with them when they play the Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend, according to the London Evening Standard.

Bould, the Arsenal assistant manager, took the place of Arsene Wenger for the victory in France as Wenger was serving the first game of a three-match touchline ban, a remnant of last season after Wenger was punished for a tirade launched against an official who got on his wrong side.

Goals from Lukas Podolski and Gervinho cancelled out an early Younes Belhanda penalty, and Bould believes the shot in the arm from coming from behind against the French champions will be enough to raise Arsenal’s confidence when they meet the English title holders at the Etihad Stadium.

Bould, who replaced the retiring Pat Rice as Wenger’s right hand man over the summer, said: “We will go to Manchester City with a bit of confidence. It is better being this way, but it is a proper test. It is where we want to be and hopefully we can come away saying we did okay again.
